You may be at risk of developing Lymphoedema – early warning symptoms may include:
- restricted movements
- feeling of fullness
- pressure
- heaviness
- tingling
- tightness
- swelling that comes and goes
- feeling of tiredness
Risk factors include:
- having had treatment for cancer
- having had surgery to remove tumors and lymph nodes
- undergone radiotherapy treatment
- accidents, cuts, burns, insect or reptile bites
Other factors that can increase the risk of swelling
- tight clothing
- weight gain
- inappropriate exercise
- alcohol
- smoking
- high blood pressure
- cardiovascular / kidney disease
- therapeutic drug medication
This specialized technique uses precise movements of the skin to activate the lymph vessels which respond by pumping harder and faster. By this action MLD has a profound effect on lymphatic transport, literally suctioning the tissues like a vacuum cleaner, removing wastes, excess fluid and moving immune elements more effectively to where they are needed.
